Meet the FF May Artist: Audrey J. Ross
Name: Audrey J. Ross
Town: Clarks Summit, PA
Medium(s): I do a variety of artwork and crafts, but my favorites are photography, ink and watercolor drawings, acrylic paintings, and zine making.
What got you into creating art? I’ve been drawing since I could hold a crayon. I’ve always been a creative writer and storyteller, so I often use art to bring characters and places to life. I started my online business Dragonistic when I was 14, originally intending to draw people some dragons and ultimately expanding into a little bit of everything. Making zines has allowed me to combine my visual art skills with writing to create collections that are fun to read and visually appealing.
What work do you most enjoying doing? I love doing ink line art before adding the colors. I find it very relaxing, even though it can be rather time consuming.
What’s your favorite artwork? I love all of Phil Koch’s photography.
What inspires you? I draw a lot of inspiration from nature, mythology, and fantasy.
Favorite artists? Peter Mohrbacher, Li Chen, Osnat Tzadok
What do you enjoy about First Friday? I love getting to see all the art and vendors while I wander between galleries with my friends. I especially enjoy the big vendor events around Christmas time.
Where do you see your art going in the next year? I’d like to make a few more zines and get back into acrylic painting. I’ve also been doing a lot of sewing recently with the demand for masks, and I’d like to try making myself a quilt. I’m always looking for new skills to learn and projects to try.
