Meet the FF April Artist: Earlene Russell

Published: April 10, 2020

Name: Earlene Russell
Town: Jim Thorpe
Medium(s): Oil, acrylic and watercolor
What got you into creating art? I am a third generation artists. I grew up watching my father create art on the level of Andrew Wyeth.

What work do you most enjoying doing? Landscapes and sunsets make me feel closer to creation and nature.

What’s your favorite artwork? My favorite artwork is a portrait painted by my father of an American Indian Chief.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given? The best advice I received is from a quote by Edgar Whitney, “ I give my Bow to Nature and then I do as I damn well please”. This quote freed me up from trying to duplicate nature to creating art.

What inspires you? The beauty of nature, at times inspiration comes from sadness, due to how some of nature is being destroyed.

Favorite artists?  Winslow Homer

What do you enjoy about First Friday? The opportunity to see the art work of other area artists and to share my work with others.

Where do you see your art going in the next year? I’m working  towards the goal of leaving a never ending impression on anyone who views my art. Realistically, this may never happen, but a goal worth pursuing.
