The December First Friday map is here!

More First Friday: Each month there are some local events happening on First Friday that - because they fall outside the downtown footprint or were not submitted to us in time - cannot be included on the map. We will strive to make note of those events on the website so be sure to check back before you head out for First Friday.

This month, OnePoint Commercial Design & Furnishings, 101 Pittston Ave., Scranton, will host “Spectacular Landscapes,” oil on canvas by William D. Hobbs. Note that the trolley will not stop at this venue; If you would like to visit this venue, it will be your responsibility to find transportation here.

The Electric City Tattoo Gallery, 620 Spruce St., will feature the photography of Amanda Makala, Pete Boychuck, Emily Walsh and Ashley Gries.

First Friday November wrap up

November’s First Friday in Scranton featured a great selection of local art and music at galleries and businesses around the downtown area.

Matt Artz and Jess Confer, the artists at Northern Light Espresso Bar, donated the proceeds from their show to the Hacienda La Esmeralda program, which provides yearly scholar ships for children in Panama.

Any artists or venues interested in taking part in the November event should sign up now. Mark your calendar for Friday, Dec. 5.

This month, OnePoint Commercial Design & Furnishings, 101 Pittston Ave., Scranton, will host a Northeast Photography Club 2008 Exhibition from 5-8 p.m. Note that the trolley will not stop at this venue; If you would like to visit this venue, it will be your responsibility to find transportation here.

And Windsor Studios, 408 Spruce Street, will feature an exhibit of works by local and regional artists during First Friday.

First Friday October wrap up

The October First Friday event treated visitors to some great local art and music. Venues across Downtown Scranton were packed with supporters of Northeastern Pennsylvania arts and culture.

The night also featured a grand opening celebration for Greenbeing, a new eco-friendly boutique at 334 Adams Ave. St. Luke’s Episcopal Church hosted a dancing dogs and paper mache animal sculptures.

Any artists or venues interested in taking part in the November event should sign up now. Mark your calendar for Friday, Nov. 7.

First Friday September wrap up

September’s First Friday featured new venues like the University of Scranton and Lackawanna College galleries, the Times-Tribune and Dionysus Downtown.

Young artists helped kick off Interdependence Day activities in Scranton with a Hexagon Project exhibition at the Melberger Arts Center gallery.

It was a great night for art and music on Aug. 1 as First Friday took over downtown Scranton.

Artists needed for youth camp

The Lackawanna County Department of Recreation is partnering with United Neighborhood Centers on a one-week camp at McDade Park August 4-8.

Lackawanna County Deputy Director of Arts and Culture Maureen McGuigan is currently seeking artists of all disciplines who would be willing to lead an one-hour workshop for children and adolescents. The hours would be between 1-3 p.m., except for Aug. 6 which would be 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Artists will be working with a group of 10-15 children in an outside environment. Tables are available. There is a $100 stipend.
